Seneca College Reaches Out to LGBT Community

For Immediate Release

Targeting marginalised youth to teach them leadership and programme planning skills particularly geared toward inner-city communities, Seneca College (www.senecac.on.ca) is exploring the creation of a new “Urban Recreation Certificate” programme.  Focusing on students who may themselves be or have been marginalised, the program will provide a bridge into a career in urban recreation, and will engage marginalised youth in further studies.

Recognising that “Recreation helps to bind communities together”, Seneca is seeking input from groups identified as fitting within the scope of the project.  OutSport Toronto has been invited to a community meeting on September 14th as a potential stakeholder.  “This is an exciting opportunity for OutSport Toronto to build partnerships that strengthen the LGBT community’s capacity for sport and recreation, and engage disenfranchised youth, reconnecting them with their communities and providing healthy lifestyle options,” stated OutSport Toronto Chair Shawn Sheridan, "all in-line with our mission, vision, and values.  We're looking forward to helping Seneca shape this programme."
