TGHA - Important Announcement

On July 8, 2011, Tracey Kohuch, the former Treasurer of the TGHA, pled guilty to the charge of ‘Fraud Over $5,000’.  He has also accepted responsibility for the missing funds of approximately $62,000 from the TGHA. Tracey’s sentence will be handed out on September 21, 2011.

The result of a guilty plea would not have happened without the work and support of a number of people, including the overwhelming support of the TGHA members.  Robert Lee-Poy in particular was instrumental with his endless hours working through the auditing process and crafting the final report used by the Crown in its case against Tracey Kohuch.  We should also thank the Metropolitan Toronto Police Services for their ongoing assistance, as without it we may not have had the guilty plea.

We should all be proud that we saw this matter through to its conclusion.  It was not always an easy process to navigate over the past few years.  Obstacles from some individuals and the overwhelming nature of the justice system meant considerable time and effort assisting the police and the Crown in a successful prosecution of this matter.  The effort also resulted in the TGHA’s enactment of tough financial process that will further protect the league’s finances and the members’ money.

As we close this sad episode and reflect on our almost 20 year history, we should remember we have emerged stronger and financially stable.  We are still the largest gay hockey league in the world, an association that has seen at least 1,000 gay men, women and their supporters play in our league, shinnies and tournaments.

The Crown welcomes the attendance of any TGHA members at the sentencing at 9:30am at the College Park Courts on September 21, 2011.  At this time, we do not know what punishment he will receive.
